Newcomers to Manchester’s rock scene, four piece Midnight Drive, released their debut single this week!
Formed with ex members of Huddersfield metal band Backstab Burial, plus YouTube artist George Holding on vocals, the result is refined and infectious songwriting, combined with undeniable power and energy. After a year and a half worth of writing and working on material, the band headed to a studio in Wales, working alongside the likes of producer and engineer Martyn ‘Ginge’ Ford (Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Slipknot) as well as professional songwriter and guitarist of The Dirty Youth, Matt Bond, to record a five track EP. Break is the first single Midnight Drive are sharing from that EP.
A pacey, fierce song based on the loss of friends and those people you thought were in it for the long haul, Break displays some influences of British bands who have made their mark on the rock scene in the past few years- elements of earlier material from bands like Young Guns and The Blackout are definitely present, while there’s an almost Bullet For My Valentine vibe during the bridge. The single is also accompanied by a video in the form of a choppy black and white studio diary depicting shots of the band working, playing and recording, as well as some of their down time during the whole process as well.
It’s a very promising start from a band straight out the gates- definitely worth keeping an eye (and an ear out) for more exciting things soon.
