The Kansas City duo of Dedric Moore and Krysztof Nemeth (Monta at Odds, The Republic Tigers, Emmaline Twist)took the downtime during the pandemic to create a studio project to pass the time and get creative by exploring the music and themes of a different age of anxiety-driven pop: the New Wave music of the 1980s.
The duo will be releasing their debut album ‘Bathed In A Blue Light’, via label The Record Machine this Summer, and also hope to play some live dates later this year. In the meantime, the band have shared a single from the album – ‘Ghostwalk’.
About the track Dedric Moore comments:
“Ghostwalk” is the first song we worked on together as Static Phantoms. Krysztof sent over a song idea and within the hour I had added the hypnotic piano to the intro and dreamy synths. It was premeditated from that point to not shy away from having a lighter touch with these songs. With Emmaline Twist and Monta at Odds, both bands search out the darker side of music. “Ghostwalk” showed us that we can embrace dream pop and New Wave, while still adding touches of surprise and a sense of wonder to those genres. After finishing the song in two days, we both knew that working together was going to be an exciting prospect while waiting out the shutdown.
A glorious mix of repeated chords, soaring synths and the deep pulse of bass lays a sumptuous bed for the ear-grabbing vocals of Krysztof. It’s his ability to break through the music with his deep mystical vocals that give the track its magic.
