Willie J Healey has just announced his first album for YALA! Records, Titled ‘True Heavy’. It arrives with a video for the first single – ‘True Stereo’
“‘True Stereo’ came from a good place,” says Willie of his latest slice of wonky indie-pop, the third taster from his upcoming full-length. “I wrote it while trying out my friend Casper’s baritone guitar. I was like, ‘damn this sounds funky!’ I then transferred that tuning to a regular six string, which gave it a really warped sludgy sound. That baritone inspired the whole idea.”
The guitars are dirty but the singing is pure. There is an almost country music whiff about it, with great lyrical phrasing in the verses and a rolling chorus that really gets under the skin. It’s a great indie track with some immaculate playing and a joyful pop sound to the overall finish.
