‘Colour’ is the debut single from new Barnsley band VITALS, whom feature members from the recently disbanded Four Authors. The new group pick up where Four Authors left off, bringing their uniquely bright pop/rock sounds to the forefront of local music.
The new track opens up with summery dance vibes, before the vocal harmonies settle it down to a more recognisable pop track. The lyrics hint at an internal battle for the girl -“She sees colour, but she shuts her eyes” – reminding me of times where depression or anxiety can take over, making it impossible to see the world in technicolour. Sometimes it feels safer to shut down, hide away, than face the vibrant world in all its wonder and faults.
The video follows a girl dressed in monochrome, walking alone through the forest. She’s suddenly blindfolded, and bags of colourful dust are thrown around her in a technicolour whirlwind, painting her black clothes in all colours of the rainbow.
‘Colour’ was written, produced, and filmed entirely by the band’s own record label, Big Sky Records. This complete independence means there is no compromise in the music they make, ensuring that everything you see and hear is VITALS through and through.

VITALS promise to release a new song every month, giving equal weight to every track they produce and ensuring they will not, can not, be forgotten.
