Tom Nethersole has captured in his new single ‘Ardmona Road’ that blush of first love – that exquisite feeling that blends both vulnerability and hope, the euphoric passion and joy. And being from the perspective of young queer lovers adds a certain poignancy.
Netherole’s vocals are velvet soft and the melodies are tinged with a hint of yearning and melancholia as any good pop song should be. He says of the track:
This track is about the kind of love you dream of – where everything just clicks, and for the first time, you feel like you belong.
It’s deeply personal but also relatable, especially for queer listeners who are searching for that fairytale moment we don’t always see reflected in music.
The lyrics convey a heartbreaking beauty that captures all the emotions of young lovers, fired by the endless possibilities of what could be, touched by an open eyed innocence:
I’ll take you home
to Ardmona Rd
Dance in the kitchen
Cards with my sister(s)
Help dad with dinner
I’ll take you home
There is a heartwarming domesticity and normality in this world that is so touching.
The accompanying film clip directed by emerging creative talent Cole Surrey (ChangebyCole), sparkles with a radiant sunshine as young folk gambol about in bucolic, pastoral scenes – a world without judgment or fear:
The track was co-written with artists Jordie Tomas and RARIA and is available to download and stream here.
