As comparable to Bonobo as it is to 90s/ early 00s chillout anthems by the likes of Massive Attack, the new single ‘Outline’ from These Brittle Bones (the brainchild of Chris Jones) is a masterpiece in soundscaping and atmospheric electronic beauty.
Opening with a wash of reverb drenched piano, a sea of etherial electronics and swelling synths, ‘Outline’ quickly sets the scene before, gentle dropping into a deep bass and pulsing muted beat surrounded by twinkling arpeggiators. Progressive gradually through varying sonic textures, the track eventually builds to a climactic final section as a pulsing bass line swells beneath the top ends.
The track closes with a subtle yet haunting spoken word sample and a comforting wash of hazy electronics.
Speaking about the track, “I wrote Outline over a series of late summer evenings at a friend’s place in rural Oxfordshire in 2021. I remember loving those moments in between day and night, when the last light of the day was fading out and everything was left in a rural tranquility. This song tries to capture those moments, of being plunged into darkness after the heat of the day, and the world is left in a kind of purple haze.”
A wonderful soundscape sure to make fans of John Hopkins tingle with excitement, the new single ‘Outline’ is out now, listen below:
