Greta Stanley is a firm favourite here at the antipodean outpost of Backseat Mafia (we’ve been closely following her upwards career trajectory for a while) and is an artist that has blossomed with a seemingly endless scope as her songs become increasingly addictive and deeply immersive. Her new track, ‘Greatest Hit’ is indeed aptly named and a case in point: she just keeps getting better exponentially, defying the laws of science. And in even better news, the track comes off Stanley’s newly announced third album ‘If I Get In, Where Would I Go?’ due out on 27 September 2024 through the inimitable Double Drummer label.

‘Greatest Hit’ is a veritable ray of sunshine with Stanley’s vocals as deliciously evocative as ever: light as a silk veil caught in the breeze with an infectious pop sensibility that skips and dances over the instrumentation. The track deals with therapeutic subjects, as Stanley says:

This song kind of has a double meaning, it’s about knowing that you have a lot to offer someone, and you finally found someone who doesn’t take that for granted, but it’s also a song to myself, about self love, and really working on the relationship you have with yourself. How, when you overcome these challenging things that keep you down, you could really show up for yourself; you could write that song, you could be that person that talks you up instead of down. It’s about the half of you that gets hidden when you get too deep in the dark shit in your brain, and when you work really hard (therapy, breaking habits, whatever!) you get to see this version of yourself you know you could be, and you know is someone you don’t want to keep hidden all the time.

One thing for certain: t’s a cathartic slice of pure sunshine:

‘Greatest Hit’ is out now and available to stream and download here.
