If you haven’t heard of The Stamps yet, consider this your cue to pay attention. The Naarm/Melbourne via Walyalup/Fremantle trio—Scarlett Graham, Rubina Bertolini, and Sofia Hourani—have just dropped their latest single, Meryl Streep, a restless and introspective indie-pop gem about relationships and life’s big shifts.
The track signals another bold step away from their folk-trio origins, following the dreamy Slow Burn, and sees them refining their sound with the help of Grammy-winning mixer Michael Brauer (Coldplay, Florence + The Machine). Drawing inspiration from Lizzy McAlpine, Ryan Beatty, and Role Model, The Stamps are making a name for themselves with lush harmonies, sharp lyricism, and an emotional weight that hits hard.
“I wrote this after leaving high school when the future was so unclear, and I was so anxious about my relationships with lots of school friends. It’s a time capsule that displays my insecurity – feeling undeserving of friends. With time and hindsight, I can confidently say that I was worried for no reason. The right people will and do stay in your life, even if you aren’t close in proximity. I’d love to go back in time and tell myself not to worry – that the constant evolution of your relationships with your close friends is normal – and to try not to cling too hard to this version of yourself.” – Scarlett Graham
The Stamps are the kind of tight-knit, three-piece unit that thrives on an almost telepathic creative connection. Their history—meeting in high school, staying in touch via snail mail (which inspired their band name), and moving to Naarm together—plays into the kind of chemistry you can’t fake.
From being triple j Unearthed High finalists to winning triple j’s Collab Comp with Methyl Ethyl, the trio has been carving a path in the Australian music scene. They’ve earned support from triple j, The AU Review, Happy Mag, and even Slowdive themselves (after covering Alison), plus toured with Boy & Bear and Fink while hitting festival stages at Queenscliff, NYE on the Hill, and Loch Hart.
Now, with Meryl Streep out in the world and a Brunswick Music Festival slot at the Sydney Rd Street Party on 2 March, The Stamps are proving that their next chapter is well and truly here. And with more live shows on the horizon, this is only the beginning.
