WITH their collaborative long player just a week away now, Bristol dub-punk collective The Pop Group and bass overlord Dennis Bovell MBE have dropped one final taster of Y In Dub, the rerub of The Pop Group’s era-defining 1979 debut Y.

Drill down bone deep below with the retake on “3:38”, the flip of The Pop Group’s fiery 1979 single “She Is Beyond Good and Evil”, broken right down to its component parts, brought back to a spectral dub life by a master. It’s dark and brilliant.

Y in Dub mirrors exactly the nine-track line-up of that 1979 debut album with the addition of that single, “She Is Beyond Good and Evil”/”3:38” – and, as you can hear, it’s heavyweight.

After celebrating Y‘s 40th anniversary reissue in 2019, with a rerelease from Mute, The Pop Group recruited Bovell to reinterpret the album after an extraordinary appearance at the band’s Rough Trade East Salon Y event, at which Dennis dropped astonishing live dubs of both sides of that 1979 single.

“Dub to me is the music of chance.  A teenage dream come true – at last – this one’s for the explorers.” says Mark Stewart.

The Pop Group’s Y in Dub will be released by Mute digitally, on CD and on cassette next Friday, October 29th, with the vinyl to follow on March 25th next year; order your copy now.
