As we emerge very slowly from the vicissitudes of COVID, it is so very pleasing to be able to anticipate the legendary Caligula‘s return to the music scene with their end of the month offerings of new material. And so far, the results have been magnificent (see my reviews here).
The end of May is highlighted by the release of ‘Happy’ – another dynamic and statuesque release featuring monumental arpeggiated synth stabbings that vibrate to the core. There is a swagger and attitude with a satisfyingly indulgent and bacchanalian force. Singer Ash Rothschild’s urgent emotive vocals cut a swathe through the hyperactive musical onslaught, and the whole effect is something magnificently dramatic and bold that sets the pulse racing:
You can download and stream ‘Happy’ through all the usual download/streaming sites.
Like a fine wine maturing, the legendary Caligula are simply getting better in their renaissance. They were brightly burning stars in the nineties and, after a long hiatus, are back on the boards with founding members Ashley Rothschild and Jamie Fonti, and some very seasoned additions – guitarist Mark Tobin (The Finalists, Steve Kilbey) and drummer Kyle Barr.
You can also catch Caligula live in action tonight in Sydney – see details below and get your tickets here.
