The Garrys return for the first time since their 2021 album Get Thee to a Nunnery, dropping their track Cakewalk, on May 3rd.
The Garrys are very much a family affair, with Canadian sisters Lenore, Julia and Erica Maier starting out jamming in their parents house, before putting down their first album – Warm Buds – in 2016. Their distinctive indie-rock sound has featured on 3 more studio albums since then, and now they’re back with a quintessential Garrys track, having recruited their brother Matthew to the ranks of the band.
Cakewalk marks the first song written by the foursome and it’s described by the band as incorporating “the nuggets of good advice we’ve all ignored!“
The sound very much continues their ‘doom-wop’ style, with wandering, intertwining guitar riffs and distinctive harmonies, woven together to give an ethereal whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts. The surf rock sound incorporates their signature melodic guitar solos and leaves you with that slightly woozy feeling, tinged with a little psychedelic sense of dread.
You can stream Cakewalk now on all major platforms, and take a look at the video on YouTube here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cawiaN8RLY
