HIGH SUMMER, nearly solstice time already – and bringing the necessary hip swing to the longest days are The Allergies, the ever-dependable Brizzle groovers, who today drop two phials of bottled rays from the golden orb: on the A you gots “Move On Baby”, fashioned in Latin brass, swingin’, tough breaks and whistles. Yes, there’s wax. Yes, rock ‘n’ roll’s got the groove like this. Shades on, cider aloft, show out and hear the lead track below.
The flip features unofficial third Allergy Andy Cooper, the old-skool rhymer of Ugly Duckling repute, who brings that crisp delivery to a completely up for it gospel-inflected hip hop glow, also graced by the vocals of Marietta Smith. It busts out all over with feelgood; you wanna hear it live, you say? Good, cos there’s a tour in the pipeline.
The new two follow hot on the heels of April’s quickfire “Lean On You” – the swamp blues-rap high roller featuring Dynamite MC – go get that down you here.
And both will also be taking their rightful place on the party tunes impresarios’ forthcoming album, Promised Land, forthcoming on Jalapeno Records. West Country in the house.
7” vinyl from The Allergies has become seriously collectable, with Discogs prices for some of their back catalogue hitting three figures (!!). Invest wisely, good people.
The Allergies’ “Move On Baby” / “Are You Ready” is out today digitally and on 7″, which you need, and with a doublepack deal also available; you can snare that over at their Bandcamp page.
