FORMED just last year, Sunderland duo Sly Hand’s sound was forged in the fire of family trauma, which brought two hitherto estranged cousins = Andrew (vocals and guitars) and Paul (drums) – together to make cathartic music.
And the first fruits of this consanguinous collaboration is single “Big Pharma”, which is available now at Bandcamp. Raw-edged swamp rock with enough early Birthday Party to get the old angst glands purring, “Big Pharma” promises a lot of guitar rage from an outfit who are building a reputation for fiery live shows in their native north-east.
Part critique of the pharmaceutical industry and part a lament upon prescription medication dependency, it’s a primal yell about mental illness in the modern age.
