Californian singer and songwriter and punk-pop goodness Sophia Marie is set to release her second EP ‘the expatriate, immortalized’. The EP depicts the adventures of a young girl abroad, shifting from stages of heartbreak, hilarity, and wonderment. Marie has shared the single ‘Your Songs Are Shit’ taken From This EP.
“your songs are shit!” depicts the experience of going out with a fellow singer and songwriter. It’s inspired by one time I skipped class while studying abroad and showed up to his concert unannounced. This song is about trying to convince yourself that you don’t care about someone, that you’re totally fine and over them, that you think their songs are shitty because their shallow self prevents any lyrical or sonic depth, but, at the same time, you’re there at his concert, spending 20 euros on a ticket, mouthing every single lyric back to him.”
From the first note, this is a track that you can’t help but stop and listen too, even just for the lyrics alone. Despite the acoustic backing Marie still manages to transmit a track full of attitude and a gentle takedown of the track’s protagonist. A song built on a catchy rhythm which carries those witty lyrics perfectly and a chorus that will live in your head for days.
