Track: Singer-Songwriter Solis Shines On New Single ‘Dead Ocean Swimmer’

Tyrone-born, Brighton-based singer-songwriter Solis (Sarah-Louise McCaul) releases the spellbinding new single, ‘Dead Ocean Swimmer’. Having opened for Blossoms, Inhaler, and Phoebe Green, and performing at renowned festivals such as Kendal Calling and Liverpool Sound City, Solis has already established herself as one to watch.

Bringing a beautiful soundscape of rich vocal harmonies and gentle indie-folk textures, the new single is as comparable to The Staves as it is to Joni Mitchell. Known for her ethereal vocals and poetic lyrics, Solis has garnered attention across the UK music scene with her signature blend of gothic noir and dreamlike soundscapes, earning praise from critics and fans alike.

The new single is no exception, bringing intimate songwriting and a rich sound-pallet that blends warming folk tendencies with tasteful violin, grounding bass and drums, and some radiant, infectious melodies. Solis’ effortlessly controlled, smooth vocals shine bright as the layers of well placed harmonies swell around the central melody, creating a dreamy elegance and a country undertone.

After relocating from Manchester to Brighton, Solis channeled this transformative journey into ‘Dead Ocean Swimmer’, resulting in a hauntingly beautiful track that explores themes of freedom and self-discovery. Co-written and produced with her longtime collaborator Andy Connor, the song reflects the struggles of modern life while offering a glimpse of hope for those seeking a more liberated existence.

“Dead Ocean Swimmer is about trying to make ends meet in every aspect of life,” Solis explains. “I wrote it when both Andy and I were overwhelmed by societal pressures. The song became a reminder that a freer, more fulfilling life is within reach if you make just a few key decisions. Shortly after writing it, I used my mortgage savings to buy a camper van and explore the world, and the song flowed effortlessly, echoing that journey of letting go.”
