Build around a gently strummed guitar and his silky, breathy vocal tone, Bertie Newman’s new single ‘Wasted On Me’ captures a melancholic warmth and a personal closeness whilst retaining a sparkling commercial appeal.
As the track builds over it’s 2.42, a boxy beat is introduced along with a swelling atmospheric sea of synths and electronics builds into the infectiously catchy chorus and Bertie’s lead vocals are surrounded by air harmonies. Pop facing yet subtly experimental and sonically considerate the track just a marvellous job of balancing beauty with commercial melodies.
Speaking not he track, Bertie explains: “This track is about the initial insecurities felt when I first started dating my current partner. It explores the relationship between self-confidence and self-doubt in the context of entering a new relationship, and wondering whether you are good enough for them and if they are just wasting their time with you.”
