Saachisen returns with another stunning, emotive and effortlessly captivating offering with the new single ‘Dark’ featuring guest vocals from ramera.
Blending elegant fingerpicked acoustics cinematic, reverb soaked piano and subtle electronics, ‘Dark’ makes use of a simplistic yet affecting backdrop for the beautiful intertwining vocal harmonies which dance above the stripped musical backdrop. As the track progresses towards the final chorus the soundscape builds towards it introducing a pulsing electronic kick and a deep bass, the vocals soar surrounded by layers of stunning harmonies, emphasising the tracks emotional impact.
Speaking about the single, she says: “Dark is a song about identity and self-worth. I wrote it a number of years ago driven by my own experiences with racism and colourism, but ever since I started performing it I’ve been stunned by the number of people that it strikes a chord with. As time has passed, I’ve also been shocked by how it only seems to become more relevant. I hope people who hear it remember that whatever they look like, they are no less than anyone else.
This recording was engineered, produced by and features Ramera Abraham, whom I first bonded with over this song at a music event in 2018. It’s amazing to have her vocals on this track, especially as she’s just won MPG’s Vocal Producer of the Year! As women of colour in non-diverse industries, we felt both of our voices worked together really well to deliver the message in the song.”
Coming off the back ‘The Gap’ and ‘Pastéis de Nata’, Saachisen continues to demonstrate her skill as a writer and a performer on ‘Dark’.
