British singer and guitarist Rosie Frater-Taylor has shared a new track ‘Give & Take’, which is the second single to be taken from her forthcoming studio album Featherweight, due for release on Cooking Vinyl on the 9th of February 2024.
Packing a heavy emotional punch, ‘Give & Take’ is an introspective, jagged slice of alt pop-rock that explores themes of duality, love and queerness and talks of coming to terms with the mistakes made in a tumultuous relationship. Both lyrically and musically permeated with a heavy sense of rage, the track channels the grace and fluidity of the likes of Lianne La Havas, Bat For Lashes and Madison Cunningham whilst showcasing Frater-Taylor’s own unique vision. The single is released alongside a video directed by Tom Ewbank which depicts the internal battles that arise whilst tackling the complex issues of gender, identity and relationships.
Poppy complicated brilliance courtesy of Frater-Taylor’s mesmerising fretwork. The track has a quiet strength within the delicate vocals that blossom with the addition of drums all the while the guitar veers from intricate runs, jazz inspired chords and full on math rock. It’s light, airy, busy and brilliant.
