Welsh duo Ritual Cloak have just announced a new EP entitled ‘Vanished In Transition’ through Bubblewrap Collective Records, and to whet the appetite have released the track ‘Left Behind’.
‘Left Behind’ is an absorbing, mesmerising fugue of jangling guitars that circulate and flow below the distant vocals. The effect is hypnotic and enchanting, with an ethereal ebb and flow as the sounds slowly reach a crescendo. David Barnett says:
‘Left Behind’ wouldn’t exist without the influence of George Harrison and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The song revolves around a sitar-like guitar line that we knew we wanted to have constantly looping to create a meditative drone. The lyrics are a collage of different lines and ideas that when brought together create a story of a long-forgotten ‘saviour’ that’s coming back but nobody needs them anymore.
Redolent of early The Dandy Warhols and with the same twelve string jangle of their peers The Brian Jonestown Massacre, this is stirring stuff indeed with a sonic architecture that is vast and open like a cathedral and just as awe-inspiring.
The single is available to download and stream here. ‘Vanished In Transition’ is out on 14 April 2023 and you can pre-order the EP here with a launch date at CULTVR in Cardiff on the same day – tickets available here.
