Track Review: Dead Stilettos – Drive

9/10

Born from a speck of an idea, gritty friendship and sheer determination, Dead Stilettos are Manchester’s hottest new property. They have shoehorned their way into the DIY scene bringing a dose of punk mayhem straight to the main vein.”  Since first appearing in 2022, they have developed a reputation for high octane live performances and their own distinct brand of Punk. Dead Stilettos are on a mission to bring authenticity and fun back to live music and give a voice to the disillusioned.

They play fast paced god awful rock n roll and are entirely DIY in their approach to writing, recording and producing, and evoke classic punk pioneers but with their own frenetic modern twist, the perfect soundtrack for a disenfranchised UK of 2023. They’ve been described as “Stoogified Mancunian Punk” and even as a creepy uncles wedding band, but Dead Stilettos think you should decide for yourself.

Their latest single, ‘Drive’ has been causing quite the stir, and with good reason – it’s brilliant. A stripped back open gives way to the energy that is fast making them infamous in the underground here and with tracks like this, The Stooges comparison is more than fair. So early into their existence to have a track like this can only foretell good things, and I cannot wait to hear them!
