The restlessly creative, splendiferous Aussie psych-machine that is the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets recently released new single Mr.Prism. The track’s music and lyrics have a similar fanciful, spectral vision as the PPC‘s most electrifying tracks like Keen for Kick Ons or Buzz. The track’s cover and visual effects show similarly ‘wormhole’-type artistry, yet altogether more technological than the sprawling visuals of 2019’s And Now for the Whatamacallit?, with a figure stepping into a distorted computer monitor.
Mr.Prism‘s ebullient chorus imparts the skippy, fuzzy guitars that are so elemental to the band’s sound. The lyrics too, are a breezily languid joie de vivre part of the track, with snippets like “for a simple Sunday for seven weekdays/pull up a sandy seat and watch the world resonate” being supremely decadent in this carefree energy. The track quietens before reigniting with 80’s sounding synth sounds and squealing lead guitar for a loud, caterwauling finish.
