Bear Paw carry with them an immediate uplift in their sound. A honky tonkier version of Dr. Dog, or a janglier and weirder Bright Eyes. More than affecting their sound with country dew and Ozarks humidity, the band takes a very natural approach to the bluegrass-meets-indie rock vibe of their sound. Nothing feels forced with Bear Paw.
Bear Paw formed after songwriters James Hinks and Jon Fazal met at a Walthamstow house party and decided to form a band that night. “The following day we had our first practice and wrote our first song”. The band hit their stride when Alex O’Hare (Drums) and Jon Bennalick (Bass) joined in early 2017. “We played a string of amazing gigs and began writing, arranging and recording the EP straight away.”
Regarding the new single “Moonshaped”, singer Jon Fazal says “Moonshaped is about the frustration of being stuck in an environment that no longer satisfies you, finding it difficult to settle and longing for something more. It’s about doing everything that you thought you were supposed to do, but finding that you still want to be more than that”.
“Moonshaped” is the first single off the long-awaited Bear Paw EP titled Something More, which will be released in November. The EP was recorded & produced by James Turner at The Sanctuary, Battersea over four long weekends, getting through endless cups of tea and Jaffa Cakes.
