Firing out from Montreal once again comes the wired post punkers Pottery with ‘Hot Heater’ the final taster from their highly anticipated debut album ‘Bobby’s Motel’. Following the pumping afro- disco of‘ ‘Texas Drums Pt 1&11’, the electro speed hop of ‘Take your time’ and the jangling Postcard warmth of ‘Hot like Jungle’ , ‘Hot Heater’ yet again shows that this is a band with real range and consistent pulse. The slow angular art riff intro bumps up to the funky DIY dance groove of the main song, all speedy guitar chops and punchy call /response chanting. You can hear David Byrne, Devo and !!! (Chk- Chk- Chk) but remoulded into a new and very individual shape.
Each single has raised the expectation around the forthcoming album ‘Bobby’s Motel’ even more. The five piece mischievously describe their debut LP as being based on an ‘all encompassing alt-reality that the band built themselves for everyone else…Bobby is Pottery and the motel is wherever they are’. It sounds intriguing, a bit daft but gloriously self – aware. A band that don’t take themselves too seriously, definitely cut it live (as seen at Green Man and End of the Road last year) and who just have great songs…look out for the album (released 26th June via Partisan) and the re-scheduled UK tour in the Autumn. Pottery are threatening to smash it.
