Track: Pippa Crossland Unleashes The Melancholic Alt-Pop Sweller ‘Weather Warnings’


Pippa Crossland shines on the vibrant, emotive new single ‘Weather Warnings’. A radiant showcase of the Sheffield-born, London-based artists abilities as a writer and a compelling performances, the track balances its warming, organic musicality with commercial sensibilities to great effect.

Following a breakthrough year that saw her lauded by BBC Radio 1 and key Spotify tastemaker playlists, as well as playing at Tramlines Festival, ‘Weather Warnings’ highlights Pippa’s radiant potential. Opening with a rhythmic, modulation tinted picked guitar line, the track gradually grows through its verse. Pippa’s elegant, melancholic lead vocals float with an effortless sense of confidence and control as the guitar lines layers with a beautifully placed overlapping part. Wide spanning vocal harmonies surround the central vocal before the track opens into a pleasingly spacious chorus.

Through the second verse, the track adds restrained drums, bass and strummed acoustics whilst flecks of subtle electric guitar shimmer before the track reaches an anthemic, fully realised iteration of the chorus which pulls the track forward to it’s climactic finally complete with some well placed brass.

Speaking on the inspiration behind ‘Weather Warnings’, Pippa shares: “I wrote weather warnings after ending a relationship that I very easily could’ve stayed in, but was empowered after leaving. It’s an open, honest depiction of knowing I made exactly the right decision, and having zero regrets.”

Poised to release her debut EP, produced by Manchester-based Toby Ollis-Brownstone, the solo artist is gearing up for an electrifying year ahead. If the new single ‘Weather Warnings’ is anything to go by, Pippa Crossland is definitely one to watch.
