BARKAA, the acclaimed Malyangapa, Barkindji rapper and recent winner of the 2024 NIMAs Artist of the Year, is set to hit the road this spring with a nationwide tour. The tour comes just in time for the release of her much-anticipated EP, ‘BIG TIDDA’, which drops on Friday, 30 August via Bad Apples Music.
BARKAA’s tour will kick off at the Darwin Festival, before heading to Boorloo/Perth, Lutruwita/Hobart, Kaurna/Adelaide, Meanjin/Brisbane and Naarm/Melbourne. BARKAA will finish up the tour with an exciting homecoming performance at Eora/Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Saturday, 2 November.
‘BIG TIDDA’ represents a bold new chapter in BARKAA’s artistic evolution. Across seven tracks, the EP is a celebration of Blak joy, growth, and resilience. Listeners can already get a taste of the EP’s unapologetic narrative through her recent singles ‘Preach‘ and ‘We Up‘. In her own words, BARKAA describes the EP as “a celebration of Blak joy, the importance of Blak love, and just feeling yourself.”
“We’re not just blakfellas who make blak music. We’re blakfellas. We make great music and we are taking over. It’s take-over season. I create music for everybody, but mostly with my sister girls in mind. I want people to connect to my music and be like: ‘that’s my track. That’s my story. I can relate to that. I feel that. I’m going to big-note myself today. I’m going to be confident today. I’m going to make amends to my family today. I’m going to take accountability today.’”
BARKAA’s momentum is undeniable. She was recently honoured as the 2024 National Indigenous Music Awards’ Artist of the Year and also took home the Game Changer of the Year award at the inaugural Pedestrian Television Awards. This recognition follows a stellar year of sold-out performances, including a standout appearance at the Sydney Opera House during VIVID LIVE. With her impactful debut at SXSW Sydney in 2023, an electrifying performance at the ARIA Awards, and numerous accolades under her belt, BARKAA has solidified her place as a leading voice in Australian hip hop.
With ‘BIG TIDDA’, BARKAA is setting the tone for a movement. This EP is all about empowerment, confidence, and accountability, designed to resonate deeply with her fans. As she says, “I want all my Tiddas to feel like they are ~that Tidda. They’re that Big Tidda.”
