Bakers Eddy are one of the most charismatic and animated bands to bless the Australian music scene. Hailing from New Zealand, but currently based in Melbourne, they can consistently conjure up an earworm of a song that oozes through your bloodstream and etches itself into your permanent memory. Joining their ever-growing catalogue of prominent singles is ‘My Baby’s Like Cigarettes’ – yet another stunner, produced by Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy), enhancing the excitement for their upcoming debut album ‘Love Boredom Bicycles’, which will be out March 25, 2021.
Irresistibly appealing and compelling, the song’s sensitivity is enveloped in wit and the group’s balanced brand of dynamism. Reminiscent of bands such as Green Day and FIDLAR, the swooning melodies of ‘My Baby’s Like Cigarettes’ comment on the unpredictable themes of relationships over the top of dexterously layered guitars and sophisticated drums. The band comments:
It’s about the push and pull in relationships and the ups and downs, cause sometimes one minute you’re cuddling in the kitchen, the next chef knives are flying across the room. It’s never always perfect but that’s part of it.
Not to be disheartened by a black hole of a year, Bakers Eddy will be playing several launch shows throughout Victoria, with an acoustic and full band show scheduled for November and December respectively, along with an appearance at Barwon Club in Geelong, before taking the stage at Knight and Day Festival towards New Years Eve. If you haven’t seen this band live, do yourself a favour and immerse yourself in their sensational magnetism; it’s a rarity to see a band of this level, at this age, perform so ludicrously tight and in sync.
