Chimers have dropped their third single, ‘An Echo,’ today, offering another glimpse into their second album, ‘Through Today,’ out November 8 on Poison City Records (Oceania) and 12XU (North America).
A departure from their usual sound, ‘An Echo’ is quieter and more introspective, spotlighting drummer Binx on lead vocals for the first time. Previously sharing vocal duties on tracks like ‘3AM’ and ‘Generator,’ Binx says taking the lead wasn’t planned.
“Singing doesn’t come naturally to me, but right before we hit the studio, Padraic suggested I sing ‘An Echo.’ With so few instruments in the band, I think the different vocal textures add something unique to the record.” – Binx
Padraic Skehan and Binx met in Dublin during what was supposed to be a short holiday but stretched into two years, eventually leading Padraic to relocate to Wollongong in 2001. Chimers came to life during the pandemic’s 2020 lockdown, born out of backyard sessions in their new hometown, 80 minutes south of Sydney.
For Padraic, it marked a shift—from drummer in Wollongong’s garage scene to frontman, guitarist, and songwriter, stepping fully into the spotlight. Chimers channel the noisy tension of post-punk, garage rock, and noise pop, blending discordant guitar, offbeat drums, and brash melodic vocals.
They’ll be hitting cities across the country for album launches and a run of shows supporting The Saints ’73-’78. Fans can catch them live in Melbourne, Geelong, Fremantle, Perth, Brisbane, Thirroul, Sydney, and Wollongong—with more dates to follow soon.
