Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Stein Akslen new project Minneriket draws on influences as various as punk, goth and classical with the intensity of the early Norwegian black metal, to create deeply moving and intresting pieces of music. Track ‘Hjemlengsel’ is the first to be released from the forthcoming album ’50 Shades Of Blackness’ due later this year.
Cooperating with session musicians Misstiq (keys), Margarita Chernova (strings) and Norlene Olmedo (cello), ‘Hjenlengsel ‘ is a taste of what’s to come from Stein Akslen’s project.
” I wanted to really present the beauty of melancholy” Akslen says.
“My music is very visual in its compositions, painting within the soundcapes… I think the whole world needs to take a deep cleansing breath, and this is two minutes of pure serenity”.
Commenting on this change of style Akslen narrates:
“I’ve spent too much time going against the grain that right now I’m not even in the same field. This upcoming album is both a departure and an arrival, and a finger to orthodoxy in metal”
Sorrow filled cello is joined by lonesome piano as the track evolves. The cracking of ice is in the background lending and even colder feel to the already solemn track. Its stark and beautiful in a cold way which is replicated by the stunning shots of snow and ice in the video. If you need a brief pose to your day grab some headphones and have a listen as the composition takes you away.
