Scottish duo Midnight Ambulance release their new single ‘Morlich’. The inspiration for the song is falling in love with music and writing again, and the start of Amelia and Fraser’s friendship that was rekindled across the ocean. The song talks about the isolation during lockdown in Paris and the desire to return home to Scotland. It was recorded with Paul Winton (LaFontains, Fatherson, American Clay) at North Road Studios using vintage equipment, which gives the track the raw honesty and emotion felt when written. ‘Morlich‘ is a little different from previous singles, but the quality of the vocal and the expansive sonic soundscape remain. A love song yes, based on the experience of isolation but it is uplifting. The atmosphere created is soaring and positive rather than downbeat. The skill of Midnight Ambulance is that they produce music full of emotion and passion. They sit apart from their peers such is their unique sound.
The artwork, created by Ritchie Collins, depicts Scottish landscapes seen from the duo’s writing studio. Ritchie’s style combines Scottish influences with a unique magical quality, blurring the lines between reality and the musical world. As with recent single releases there will be an animation music video made in collaboration with Edinburgh College of Art students.
On release day they play a sold-out show at Sneaky Petes in Edinburgh. Let’s hope there are more live dates in the planning so others can experience this extraordinary band.
