It’s been just over three years since Mess Esque – the stunning collaboration between Helen Franzmann (McKisko) and Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Tren Brothers) – released their self-titled album (see my review here), and a follow-up entitled ‘Jay Marie, Comfort Me’ is due for release on 28 March 2025 through Drag City Records and Remote Control Records.

As a taster of what’s to come, a dreamy new single ‘Let Me Know You’ has been released today. Including the devotional stark lyrics let me lick your armpit, the new single from Mess Esque is an exquisite raw and unadorned track that floats simply on a bed of synths, absent of guitars or percussion, like a silken veil on a wisp of a breeze.

There’s a child-like innocence in the expression, almost delivered in a hypnotic tone of a nursery rhyme with Franzmann’s vocals naked and raw, close and intimate, sensual.

The track comes with a video by Denny Ryan which is just as gentle and intimate, looping Helen’s gentle movements side-by-side to form a tableau in motion.

‘Let Me Know You’ is out now and available to download and stream here.

‘Jay Marie, Comfort Me’ is out on 28 March via Drag City Records / Remote Control Records. You can pre-order through the link below.
