Singer-songwriter Maggie Cubillos is currently a junior at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. She has released her first single, ‘Old Shoes’ which was produced was produced by Steve Ornest (who also plays guitar on the track) at LA’s Total Access Recording (Black Flag, No Doubt, Guns N’ Roses, Sublime) along with bassist Matt Rubano (Taking Back Sunday, Outasite, Lauryn Hill) and drummer Rob Humphreys (Kacey Musgraves Jason Mraz, Elle King).
Cubillos comments:
“’Old Shoes’ is about embracing change and moving forward. I wrote it at a time in my life where I felt like everything around me had shifted and I had to decide whether I should stay afraid or embrace it and grow with it. I think writing this song helped me realise that sometimes change isn’t as scary as we think and there’s so many good things that can come from it.”
The track begins with Cubillos’ gorgeous lilting vocals over the grounding drone of a guitar before the full band joins in and lifts the track to new heights. The drums give an urgent feel to the track and build up each verse to the soaring choruses. This is pop done beautifully that will take you away for a couple of minutes in that magical way that music can.
