Maebh is the solo project of singer-songwriter and producer Maeve Brayne. The Newcastle born, London based artist is all set to release her debut 7-track EP, ‘By The Way’. Brayne has shared the lead single ‘Wild Strawberry’ in preparation.
Speaking on the meaning behind Wild Strawberry + the EP as a whole, Maebh explains:
“I made Wild Strawberry during the first lockdown and it’s probably my most fun and playful song yet. It’s about being hungry for more than stable love. The strawberry is a metaphor for a crush. It’s super dreamy- think hazy long afternoons in summer full of lust and longing. I’m so excited to be releasing my debut EP. I’ve been working on it for the last couple of years and I feel like it’s really reflective of me as a songwriter and producer.”
Maebh continues:
“There are songs about relationships, songs of longing, and songs of sadness. Some are funky and one is mostly harmonicas. Most of these tracks were written in the first lockdown when I was lucky enough to be living in the countryside in Cumbria. We strangely had a drought and day after day of perfect weather. When I think back to making these songs I think of coming back off the hillside at 6pm and dancing alone at golden hour, lime green leaves and hot hazy afternoons.”
The flickering of guitar and percussion are at odds with the honeyed voice of Maebh. A delicious pop track with an infectious beat that gets right under the skin. There’s no missing the gorgeous vocals though, which are only enhanced by the irregular selection of percussive beats and playing style.
