TRACK: Louis-Étienne Santais – ‘Reflection 1’: a piano study for an old friend

Louis-Étienne Santais

QUEBECOIS composer Louis-Étienne Santais has only been releasing music as himself, for himself, for a matter of months now; but he’s already racked something like two million streams on Spotify for his wistful, warming modern solo piano composition.

Also a member of the beautifully melancholic duo Ghostly Kisses alongside Margaux Sauvé, he’s about to release an album of his solo piano studies, Reflection 1, from which he’s released the titular track – take a listen below.

“Reflection 1” is actually a musical analogy to a long-standing friendship: it represents two pieces that complement each other, two motifs blended together. Cinematic string harmonics pedals complement the melody.

“This piece cannot be played by one musician alone; it needs extra hands to be executed properly, ” says Louis-Étienne.

“I composed it in 2016 with the help of my old friend Thomas Casault, the lead singer from my project Fjord.”

Louis-Étienne will be presenting some of his compositions for the first time on November 20th at the Palais Montcalm, Quebec City, opening for Ghostly Kisses. Tickets for the live stream are on sale here.

Reflection I will be released on digital format November 27th via Coyote Records. You can pre-save it on Spotify now.
