Restrained, understated yet beautiful and intricate, Litvar’s ‘Alone Not Lonely’ is a wonderful mix of uplifting indie-pop and glitching electronic-pop.
Opening with a subtle intertwining arpeggiator, boxy guitars and subtly processed vocals, the track quickly sets a lo-fi bedroom-pop tone with an essence of indie-rock experimenters Mew. As the track grows it opens into the gentle yet euphoric, floating chorus with bass and live drums pulling the track forward. Glitching samples and elegant layers of guitar and synth intertwine creating a strikingly unique sound which should be messy but is in fact tight and beautifully formed. Perfectly treading the line between irreverent indie and melancholy fuelled experimental elements, the track is brilliantly balanced and thoughtfully put together.
Speaking on the track, the band share: “We first started working on Alone (Not Lonely) in February of 2021, beginning with just a chopped guitar loop that became the backbone of the song. It ended up becoming one of our favorite songs to play live, so when it came time to record our second album it was at the top of the list. Recorded at New Monkey Studio (former studio of Elliot Smith), we tracked the bass, acoustic guitar, and drums live together, to try to give the recording the same feel that we put into our live performance.”
