Track: Lilian Hak Shines On New Single ‘I Will Ever Be Your Head’

Dutch producer, songwriter, and vocalist Lilian Hak releases the new album RESET with the vibrant new single ‘I Will Ever Be Your Head’. A vibrant neo-soul, jazz and trip-hop track, the single displays the vibrant blend of indie and pop tendencies which characterise the album.

Immersive and experimental, the track showcases a vibrant blend of Portishead-esque soundscaping with an added flair of brass and jiving jazz undertones. Anchored by a hypnotic bass riff, shuffling beats and lush brass sections featuring trombone and trumpet, ‘I Will Ever Be Your Head’ offers a rich tapestry of sound. Layered vocal harmonies and subtle guitar textures complete the sonic palette, creating an atmosphere that feels both cinematic and intimate.

“I started with the lyrics for this one,” Hak says. “The bass riff and trombone section felt like the skeleton of the track. I built on that by layering in horns, guitars, and rich vocal harmonies. After handling the pre-production myself, I went into the studio with my producer to record drums, bass, and guitars, then stacked multiple layers of vocals to create depth.”

Lyrically, the song delves into themes of self-liberation, digital isolation, and the subtle power dynamics of modern relationships. Inspired in part by The Merchant of Venice and Rear Window, Hak reframes classic themes of voyeurism and manipulation within a contemporary, tech-infused world. “The song’s protagonist refuses to be manipulated,” she explains. “I am not your fool to tag.”

Having toured extensively across Europe, performed at major festivals and theatres, and sharing stages with acts like M83, The Kills, and Kashmir, Lilian Hak’s music has found homes on national TV, Dutch radio, and New York’s WFMU, with collaborations including Ozark Henry, Matthew Herbert, T.Raumschmiere, Scanner, and Pitto.

With RESET, Hak pushes into an exciting and original sonic and narrative territory. The lead single ‘I Will Ever Be Your Head’ is a compelling example of this. Listen to the full album below:
