We’ ve always had a bit of a soft spot for funk/jazz combo Lettuce, and their new single ‘Checker Wrecker’, taken from their forthcoming seventh studio album, ‘Resonate’, out May 8th via Round Hill Records.
The band have drafted in scenesters Big Tony Fisher of Trouble Funk and Tyrone ‘Jungle Boogie’ Williams of Rare Essence. “Go-go music is the style of music that links funk to hip-hop and this song is a tribute to that groove,”state the band. “Having Tony and Boogie, iconic go-go legends, as features on the track gives it evenmore of a boost in energy and swagger.”
It’s a full on slice of that aforementioned Go-go funk, with infectious beats, wobbly synths and glittering funk guitars alongside a healthy dose of brass to spice up the chords changes. Over the top there’s a good deal of attitude on display as these chants of ‘Put some stank on it’ fill the room.
It’s quite something. Check Out the accompanying lyric video, here
