Dave Mudie, AKA L.A Mood has released ‘Lemongrass’ via Cheersquad Records, it is the second single from his debut album ‘A Print out of the Sun’. The album will be released on 26 August and will be released on black vinyl, limited edition orange vinyl and digitally, all available for pre-sale now.
L.A. Mood is the solo project of Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Mudie. When not grooving as L.A. Mood, Mudie is the full-time drummer for Courtney Barnett. Apart from this, Mudie has also played drums on Jess Ribeiro’s latest album, recorded Jade Imagine’s debut and played on releases from Gumboot, Super American Eagle (alongside Brent DeBoer of The Dandy Warhols), Cannon, Baby Blue & Evan Dando (The Lemonheads).
‘Lemongrass’ features some fuzzy guitar work with powerful vocals and a great feedback outro – I have to agree with Peter Holmström (Dandy Warhols) who said of the track, “Classic power pop, a welcome ray of audible sunshine.”
“I wanted to write a simple 3 chord song that had a bit of a Lemonheads vibe to it, and I borrowed a crazy old Japanese fuzz pedal from a friend that really added some heat. Once I got Bob Harrow into record the vocals with me, it turned into quite a night, and we added the outro solo, screams and double drums and shit just really got out of hand in a good way.”

The new album, ‘A Print Out Of The Sun’ was written and recorded across Melbourne, Portland and Castlemaine, and mixed by Collin Hegna. The title is inspired by a longing for the sun in places where it can seem hard to find. The album artwork is by Mary Streepy and features ’60s harmonies, bright guitars and psychedelia, counterbalanced by plenty of grit, distortion and thumping drums – something to look forward to!
