Lewisham producer Kwes, best known for his production work with the likes of Bobby Womack, NAO, Solange, and Loyle Carner, plus he mixed label mate Kelela’s debut album ‘Take Me Apart’, is back with an EP of his own after five years. Titled Songs for Midi, and it’s an ode to his two year old neice Midi – about childhood discoveries amongst the every day and mundane, and a comment on the effervescence of youth.
Midi herself has designed the cover, with a little help from UNcle Kwes, and other nephew Connor has written the press release.
The track is loose and feels quasi-improvised as different sugary electronic lines mix together, all naive in their outlook but bleeding together into something that glitters brightly. Listen carefully and it sounds like bugs talking or even alie……….. hang on, this Connor is good.
