KHAOS EMRLD (the nom de plume for Cody Stebbings) caught our attention earlier this year with the singles ‘getting better’ and ‘not the same’ (lower case intended in all cases). The third release, ‘myself again’ comes out today, bereft of capitals again, and we are once more treated to a yearning bravura performance that puts on display Stebbing’s heartfelt lyrics and production magic.
According to Stebbings,
The song explores self-identity and self-love, all while staying true to the elements of music I wanted to showcase. I wrote this when I was coming to terms with my sexuality and personality type, and while the world and my life has changed almost unrecognisably since then, I’m still finding ways to remind myself who I truly am, and the potential for who I could be. People change, circumstances change, life is often a silly mess, but there are rare, beautiful moments in life where you’ll realise ‘this, this feels like me.’ Savour those moments.
The track is marked by its pop/punk sensibilities and also its refusal to follow normal conventions – changing direction with lightening speed while maintaining an hyperactivity that is compelling:

KHAOS EMRLD is a solo project helmed by the highly talented Stebbings, whom we’ve met before in the band Down For Tomorrow – and he has created a whole new dynamic persona with this new material, and in the process put on display his production skills.
