“We can find solace in the fact that we have to go through the bad stuff to truly get to the good,” says Kali Uchis of the title track to be taken from her forthcoming ‘After the storm’ album. “Just because you’re losing at the moment doesn’t mean you’ve lost yet. The storm may be scary now but it’s how your flowers bloom later, and paradise is just beyond the rainbow.”
Certainly an artist to watch out for in 2018, “After the Storm” also features guest vocals from funk legend Bootsy Collins and longtime collaborator Tyler The Creator – the latter a longtime collaborator since her very first mixtape ‘drunken babble’ was released in 2012. Focusing on staying strong and holding fast, it’s a downtempo funk filled slice of perfect pop, with Collins and Tyler bringing their considerable A-games to the (late night) party. It’s awash with 80s funk, while still sounding totally modern, and if you can stop your head nodding to this one, you’ve (literally) no soul.
