Julia Jacklin has just released a new track ‘Love, Try Not To Let Go’ (via Liberation Records) off her upcoming album ‘Pre Pleasure’, which is set for release on the 26th August.

The new album, which is Jacklin’s third, was conceived when she returned home from the mammoth ‘Crushing’ world tour. It was recorded in Montreal with co-producer Marcus Paquin (The Weather Station, The National).

‘Love, Try Not To Let Go’ builds on the success of Jacklin’s previously released tracks, ‘I Was Neon’ and ‘Lydia Wears A Cross’, which received much critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, The New York Times, Stereogum, NME and NPR Music.

The new song is a departure of sorts for Jacklin because it was composed on a piano and has a bizarre link to Rocky Balboa.

“‘Love, Try Not To Let Go’ was written one night during the recording period in my apartment in Montreal. It’s the first song I’ve ever written fully on piano. It’s the first time I’ve played piano on a record. I thought someone better would redo the take but we kept it so now I’m officially a pianist. We recorded it the next day. I made everyone watch the running scene from Rocky beforehand.”

‘Love, Try Not To Let Go’ has an accompanying video, co-directed by Nick Mckk and features a collaboration with Juliet Bryant. It was filmed in one shot in Melbourne and includes an unexpected appearance by a neighbourhood cat.

The song incorporates Jacklin’s as-always insightful lyrics set against orchestration with a prominent piano line. Mid way through the song, some rambunctious guitar work emerges to add a completely unexpected element to the track.

Jacklin is due to tour the US, UK and Europe from August this year. The tour will span several months and see her perform at her biggest venues to date, including iconic rooms like the 3000-capacity Roundhouse in London, and 1800-capacity Brooklyn Steel in New York.
