Track: Joanne Shaw Taylor Unveils New Single ‘Black & Gold’, A Bold Reimagining of Sam Sparro’s Iconic Hit

Acclaimed blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Joanne Shaw Taylor has just released her latest single, ‘Black & Gold’. Produced by Kevin Shirley (The Black Crowes, Aerosmith) this soulful, blues-gospel rendition breathes new life into Sam Sparro’s 2008 Grammy nominated hit.

“I always loved the desperation of the lyrics and thought it could make a great Blues/Gospel song if performed differently,” Joanne shares. “I played my version to Kevin Shirley in the studio, and fortunately, he heard the same thing I did.”

The track follows on from previous single ‘Hold of My Heart‘ featuring Sav Madigan, Which marked the start of a series of singles to be released since the acclaimed album ‘Heavy Soul‘, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Blues Album chart.

There seems no end to Shaw’s talent. Her reimagining of ‘Black And Gold’ sees her make this very much a Joanne Shaw Taylor classic. Smoky voice, subtle guitar work with that stinging tone (apart from the short fire cracking solo) give us a smooth bluesy rendition of this iconic track. This is an artist having fun and doing what she loves which shows in the quality of music.
