New Zealand’s legendary Voom make a spectacular return after a break since 2006 with the dreampop elegance of ‘Magic’, featuring the dulcet tones of Fazerdaze (Amelia Murray). The sparring vocals of Murray and Buzz Moller create a wonderful contrast – Moller’s distinct soft rasp against Murray’s ethereal angelic vocals. The vocals surf over a wave of fuzzy wild guitars and through an angelic chorus. The overall effect is a magical blast of antipodean melodic pop with an anthemic flavour.
‘Magic’ is an infectious, catchy delight.
The accompanying video has the amusing scenario of Murray as a stalker of Voom, and Moller subject to a violent kidnapping, allowing Murray to take over the reigns up front with the masked kidnappers providing backing.
Voom and Fazerdaze? A perfect hit of heavenly pop.
‘Magic is out through the legendary Flying Nun Records and available to stream and download here and through the link below.
Voom consists of Moller alongside long-time Voomer and Goodshirt member and guitarist Murray Fisher, Lil’ Chief collaborator and bass player Nick Buckton, and drummer Josh Sorenson.
