‘brand new day’, the new single from Aotearoa/New Zealand-born and based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Lucian Rice is a gorgeous, luscious track that positively shimmers with colours and textures. It features a wash of thick sound, underpinned by a shoegaze blush and delivered with a dream pop lustre, filled with a sense of yearning and burning desire.

Rice says of the track’s themes:

The two lyrics ‘your shirts under my bed getting old’ and ‘how many times ’til next time’ sum it up pretty well. I was confused and kinda pitiful, just holding out and hanging on to something I shouldn’t’ve. Like a thread hanging off a t-shirt or whatever, we just needed to break off completely…

He has created an indelible sound that seethes and foments before sparking into a blinding all-consuming fire:

‘brand new day’ is out now and available to download and stream through the link above and here.

Rice is shaping up to be a prodigious talent. Having spent time split between New Zealand, New York and Los Angeles, Lucian has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, further expanding his creative horizons, working alongside talents such as Nick Ward, carwash, and Molly Payton.
