Track: Italian Based Rockers Biopsy O Boutique Unveil Moody New Single ‘Nettle Kiss’

After a challenging few years following severe health issues within the band, Biopsy O Boutique are back and are firmly cementing their place in the rock scene with their new single ‘Nettle Kiss’.

Taken from the band’s upcoming EP of the same name, ‘Nettle Kiss’ highlights the diverse sound of Biopsy O Boutique, embodying a compelling blend of grunge, stoner rock, punk rock and blues. Following the more straightforward punk sound of their first single this year, ‘Eisoptrophobia’ and its follow up ‘So Far’, which presents a softer, stripped back tone, featuring solely vocals and acoustic guitar, ‘Nettle Kiss’ marks the band’s third and final single prior to the EP release, presenting a gloomy, brooding track which displays the extent of their versatility.

Opening with its punchy, gritty guitar riff, drawing you into the track, ‘Nettle Kiss’ immediately makes its dark tone apparent, bolstered by a deep, gloomy bassline and slow building, driving drums. Daniele Perrino’s signature, lead vocals pushes the track’s shadowy atmosphere even further, with its haunting style reminiscent of artists such as Nick Cave and Tom Waits, particularly in the latter half. Gradually becoming increasingly layered as it progresses, ‘Nettle Kiss’ expands into an evocative burst of dark rock energy, with thunderous lead guitar and powerful vocals that cement the track into a melancholic, yet addictive soundscape.

Speaking on the new single, the band shared: “We chose ‘Nettle Kiss’ as the title track because it captures the essence of what we went through. It’s about the bad things in life that, strangely enough, you sometimes wish you could have back, despite the pain they caused.”

After recording the track and “cursed” EP at Colosso Room Studio in late 2022, both Perrino and guitarist Nicolò Apolloni encountered severe health issues, which caused a delay in the release of new music since their self-titled debut EP back in 2020. Showcasing a definitive artistic evolution, ‘Nettle Kiss’ is a cathartic track channelling the band’s pain, anger and confusion, whilst also trying to allude to a glimmer of hope.
