Ashbourne, Ireland-based indie-rockers Public Warning return with their infectious new single ‘Reckless’. Offering a tantalising preview from the band’s forthcoming EP, ‘OVER/UNDER’, the single showcases their ability to blend high-octane indie-rock energy with catchy, melodic elements.
Produced by Keelan O’Reilly, known for his work with Post-Party, Still Blue, Paddy Keyes, and The Drive, ‘Reckless’ is a testament to Public Warning’s dynamic sound. The track features bright, biting guitar tones, synth washes, driving drums, and grounding bass, creating a soundscape that oscillates between gentle, swirling verses and explosive, overdriven choruses reminiscent of Catfish and the Bottlemen.
Lead vocalist Adam O’Dea’s melancholic yet catchy vocal delivery adds a radiant layer to the track, balancing its alt-rock intensity with commercial appeal. The song’s narrative explores themes of suspicion and mistrust within relationships, capturing the emotional turbulence with a heavier sound than the band’s previous singles.
‘Reckless’ and the rest of the ‘OVER/UNDER’ EP were recorded at Jejune Studios in Drogheda in 2024. Discussing the track, O’Dea shares, “Reckless tells the story of how suspicions and mistrust can tear down a relationship just as quickly and as violently as infidelity. While staying true to our indie-rock roots, ‘Reckless’ sees us explore a heavier sound than on our previous singles, which you can expect more of on our upcoming EP ‘OVER/UNDER’.”
Public Warning has built a solid reputation with sold-out shows across Ireland and features on Spotify Editorial Playlists such as ‘Hot New Bands’ and ‘Fresh Finds UK & IE’. With continued airplay on RTE 2FM, including being Track of the Week on Roz & Emma, the band is poised to extend their reach to audiences across the UK. ‘Reckless’ marks a significant step in their musical journey, promising an exciting future for the indie-rock outfit.
