BB Sabina’s latest single, ‘Multitude,’ is a track that lingers. It’s nearly seven minutes long, and honestly, it might not be long enough. Moving through trip-hop’s shadowy corners, it picks up the tension of post-rock and absolutely glows with hypnotism.
Beth Uhe’s voice drifts through like a lone ballerina, upstaged by nothing else. It’s layered upon itself in eerie harmonies that reinforce the song’s message: identity is fluid, ever-shifting, and impossible to contain in a single definition. The instrumentation is both immersive and cinematic – all deliciously moody basslines, and icy synth melodies. There are definitely echoes of Portishead and Björk in its DNA, though ‘Multitude’ doesn’t cling to its influences. Mixed by Aden Senycia and mastered by Joe Carra, the production is dense but never overstuffed, every sound has its space, and every moment feels intentional.

Lyrically, ‘Multitude’ reflects on queerness, gender, and the complexities of self-definition. “The song feels like a strong statement about who I am. How I don’t easily fit into a box, and feeling uncomfortable when someone tries to put me in a box, how this can feel so limiting”, says Uhe.
BB Sabina are launching ‘Multitude’ at The Gem in Naarm/Melb on April 12th, and if this track is anything to go by, the atmosphere will be thick enough to sink your teeth into.
