There’s nothing like a bit of noisy, shouty guitar-driven rock’n’roll, and Queenland’s Haters have released a blaster in their debut ‘Feel Better’.
In the world where bands like Idles, Fontaines DC and The Murder Capital are making a massive impact and heralding a return to punk poetry, Haters are boldly entering the fray: powerful riffs, melodies with more hooks than than a fisherman’s bait box and a profound sense of passion.
Singer/guitarist Jai Sparkes says of the song:
The brain is a beast. I’d really become a handful at the point of writing this and was personally exhausted with just waking up being me. I’d stopped having a lot of feeling towards others and also towards myself. I wrote myself off with a bottle of whiskey in a park during the day. It was a moment where I realised I was actually incredibly sick. I think no matter who you are there is a moment in your life where you think “Is this it” and this is what I was thinking the most when I wrote this song.
“Feel Better’, with its positive vibes, is accompanied by a video filled with a heart-warming vision of acts of guerrilla kindness:
Of the video, Sparkes says:
We made a video for our debut single ‘Feel Better’ with our good friend Michael Geddes, he did everything on this clip because he’s really talented and we love him dearly. Thanks heaps to the people of West End for being great, Lisa Sparks for making the beautiful flowers and Emma Sparks Creative for documenting everything behind a still lens.
Haters – rather a somewhat ironic misnomer given their passion and optimism – are essentially Sparkes and Jimmy Priest (drums). They are Haters because apparently ‘Lovers was taken’. Long live rock’n’roll.
