Out on May 15th via Thrill Jockey is the new album and collaboration from Portland duo Golden Retriever and Oakland guitarist Chuck Johnson, and from it they’ve share the albums first single, ‘Empty Quarter’.
It’s slow moving and experimental, the electronics layered and Johnsons guitar melodies minimal yet beautiful. Into the mixture are added pedal steel, bass clarinet and saxophone, as the space and intricacies of the guitar line glisten and shine. As the sounds are allowed to bleed together into these deliciously gloopy, frayed texture.
