Track: Fright Years Shine On Vibrant, Melancholic New Single ‘Blue’

Fright Years share another vibrant example of their indie-pop songwriting on the beautiful new single ‘Blue’, treading through teenage angst over a rich and tight instrumental backdrop.

Opening with a high-octane explosion of distorted guitars, cymbal heavy drums and driving drums, ‘Blue’ quickly grabs your attention. Moving to a verse of warming piano chords, drums accented by the thumping kick and plucky bass, the silky smooth, emotive lead vocals enter giving the track a captivating central hook which carries the track forward to its euphoric, anthemic chorus.

Continuing into an explosive guitar break before the climactic middle-eight and final chorus, the bands stylistic indie-pop sound shines with a fluorescent likability, balancing it s emotive, rock tones with a glittering commercial appeal. Comparable to early The 1975 but with female lead vocals, the track is at once nostalgic and fresh and exciting.

Speaking about the single, the band explain: ”Blue is about swallowing your pride and embracing the end of a relationship. It was one of the first songs we wrote as a band and has closed our set ever since. It’s chaotic and messy.”
